Restoration Project at Deception Pass State Park

In honor of Earth Day, volunteers will stage split rails at Goose Rock Summit. The rails will be used to restore safety fencing on Goose Rock trail for Trail Maintenance Day on June 4th. The fencing will continue to encourage visitors to stay on designated trails to protect plant habitats. This will also prevent foot traffic from causing erosion or damaging fragile vegetation. This is a challenging project, so we have some guidelines and qualifications required of participants:

• Volunteers ages 10 and up
• Volunteers must be able to carry 10-15 lbs. split rails up a steep incline, walking 1.5 miles round trip
• Volunteers must be able to work outdoors for 2-4 hours in varying weather conditions
